Private care centres under the Care Centres Act 1993 (Act 506) face more frequent unannounced inspections under a revised enforcement approach, with the results feeding a register that families can consult before choosing a home.
Providers are asked to display their licence in a publicly visible place and to state the maximum number of residents the licence permits. Families are advised to ask whether a home is operating within its licensed capacity, as over-capacity operation is one of the most frequently cited issues in inspections.
